     QWA 2016 Completed Projects - 1/28/17

During the year of 2016 the board was able to complete some major projects: In September the main line repair on Quincy Magyer Road was completed, as well as the fix for drainage issue from our pressure regulating vault on Stewart Creek Rd., and the new booster station was installed at our Ilmari Site, which has allowed the system pressure to be lowered as a precaution for our aging pipelines.

Our drinking water from our Stewart Creek well is safe and meets federal and state requirements. View the full report here.

Hermo Road Project Update - 4/29/16

As posted in our annual update, the Quincy Water board has regular involvement with the Hermo Road rebuild project in order to oversee and protect our water lines along Hermo Road. Board members Randy Trass and Jim Malisch met with the engineer last month to review the final design drawings.

At the April board meeting Randy reported that a member had expressed concern for the water line and gas line near the railroad crossing behind the store. The heavy truck traffic was crumbling the asphalt, the ground was sinking and being pushed off to the side. Randy called both the gas company and the contractor, TFT, with our concern about the possibility of a line break. Hauling was temporarily stopped while the contractor repaired the damaged section and repaved the roadway.

There are four phases for the project and during the past year, design engineering and site surveying were completed. Then work began last fall on phases C & D of the project at the far end of the road near Port Westward.

Randy reported that the contractor was almost finished with phases C & D and expected to begin phases A & B by the end of June, which would begin the replacement of the Association's Hermo Road water lines.

The following letter from Global Partners was received four days later:

Hermo Road Update. (from Catie Kerns)

Dear Neighbors,

We hope that you are enjoying these first days of spring. As you are well aware, Global and its partners have been actively working on the first phase of Hermo Road --- we appreciate your cooperation in that effort.

To date, the road is nearly developed to the Port Westward property. Over the coming weeks the first phase will be substantially completed.

We will re-visit the second phase of the Hermo Road expansion in coordination with our other development efforts at Port Westward. At this time we do not have a timeline for this work.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Dan Luckett or Catie Kerns.

     2016 Improvement Projects - 3/10/16

At the first board meeting of the year, March 10th, the Board of Directors prioritized the following improvements to the system for this year:

We will be fixing the drainage of the Stewart Creek vault. Ground water builds up inside the vault, covering the new valves that we put in last December. Adding a new drainage method will keep the valves in better working order for longer.

The second item of improvement will be to lower the overall system pressure in order to increase the life of our pipes. We are currently running at a higher pressure to accommodate those residence at higher elevations. In order to lower the pressure and still maintain the required 20 lbs. of pressure at the meter for higher elevation homes, we will be working out a plan to boost the water pressure on Ilmari Rd.

     Vault Repair Project- 12/08/15

In June 2015 the board solicited bids from four contractors to completely rebuild both water pressure control vaults. Cascade Water Works from Turner Oregon was awarded the job. Cascade is the contractor who completed the new well and filter project in 2012.

The project scope specified the replacement of all valves with new ones in both vaults. On December 1 & 2, 2015 Cascade executed the project. The contractor arrived on site well prepared with valve control sections partially assembled. Everything was removed from the vaults and replaced with new valves and pipes.

In spite of delays caused by ground water filling the vaults, the work was completed on schedule. Water service restored just past 6:00 PM, approximately on schedule although a few users at extreme elevations did not have water immediately.

     Maintenance Projects 2015 - 4/21/15

The board of directors met for a working session on April 21, 2015 to discuss and prioritize maintenance projects for the year. Our main priority is the repair or replacement of the Stewart Creek and Ilmari/Quincy Mayger vaults. Concurrently, we will be locating buried and inaccessible valves and repairing as needed.
